Getting product listings right: photos, titles, descriptions

What makes a listing sell or not: the photo, the title, the specifications and the variants. Practical advice for sellers.

On a marketplace the buyer can neither touch nor try: your listing does all the work. It has two jobs — create desire, and remove the doubts that would lead to a refusal at delivery.

The photo decides in one second

In a results grid it is the only thing a buyer sees before clicking. Shoot in daylight near a window, on a plain uncluttered background, and show the whole product. Then add detail shots: the material, a label, what is in the box. A built-in AI assistant can improve your photos if you have no equipment.

A title that says what it is

The title should let someone recognise the item without opening the page: the product type, the brand if there is one, and what distinguishes it. Avoid shouting capitals and empty words like « big promo » — they help neither the buyer nor search engines, which display the title exactly as written.

Specifications prevent returns

Dimensions, material, volume, what is included: those are the details that separate a satisfied buyer from a refused parcel. In fashion, size is the leading cause of returns — give your real measurements rather than relying on standard equivalences, which vary from brand to brand.

Declare your variants

The same item in several sizes or colours is declared as variants of one product, not as separate listings. The buyer then picks directly on the page, your stock stays accurate per size, and your reviews accumulate on a single listing instead of being scattered.

Frequently asked questions

How many photos per product?

One is the accepted minimum, three to five is a good benchmark: one overall view, one or two details, and the box contents where relevant.

My product was rejected, why?

The reason is shown in your seller area. The most frequent causes are an unreadable or lifted photo, a description that does not match the item, or an obviously wrong category. Fix it and republish.
